JUDGE JASON VERDIGETS SEEKS RE-ELECTION
Pledging to continue to run his courtroom with “Common sense and no nonsense,” Jason Verdigets announced that he is seeking another term as judge in the 23rd Judicial District, comprised of Ascension, Assumption and St. James Parishes. Election day is Tuesday, November 3rd with early voting taking place October 20 through 27.
“As the district’s longest serving and most experienced judge, I have presided over more than 13,000 criminal and civil cases, strictly following the law to impose punishment when warranted and render fair judgements in other instances,” Verdigets said. “I will continue to use this invaluable experience and unique knowledge of our court system to provide our community with the service it needs, expects and deserves.”
During his 12 years of service, Verdigets has been appointed to serve as Chief Judge three times, functioning as liaison between all governmental agencies in the three parishes that deal with the court.
As part of his continuing efforts to enhance services, he assisted in creating the new family court division, adding a much-needed judge to the district to help handle the ever-increasing number of cases. Verdigets also helped lead the effort to construct the new Gonzales courthouse to improve citizen access, increase efficiency and provide better working conditions.
Verdigets’ extensive judicial experience led to his appointment as Ad Hoc Judge on the Louisiana 5th Circuit Court of Appeal, deciding appellate cases from our area.
A former Assistant District Attorney, Verdigets was named Louisiana’s Drug Prosecutor of the Year for his crimefighting work. He secured hundreds of convictions for an array of crimes including DWI, forgery, battery, cruelty to juveniles, sex offenses and numerous other charges. In private practice, he handled a wide variety of legal issues for many local people and businesses.
Verdigets is a graduate of East Ascension High School, LSU and the Southern University Law Center. He is a member of the Louisiana District Judges Association and serves on its legislative committee.
Verdigets said “It is my honor to serve you as judge. I will continue to make decisions that are fair, firm and keep our community safe. I humbly ask for your vote and support so this important work can continue. Thank you.”
